Tinplate box manufacturers talk about the production process
The steel used to make tinplate is hard steel. There are many important stages in the production process, which affect the performance of tinplate.
Hot rolling: the production of clean steel from continuous casting billets. The surface defects are eliminated by beveling or cleaning, and then heated to 1200-13000C to make a sheet.
Pickling: Cooling to remove oxides produced during pickling. However, using earlier acids, the innovation makes this stage acid-free, oil-free and more environmentally friendly.
Cold rolling: The hot-rolled steel plate is cooled by water and lubricating oil, and then rolled.
Cleaning: Use alkaline phosphate, silicate and sodium hydroxide to remove cooling water with hot air.
Annealing: This stage softens the steel and forms the desired grain structure. A large amount of annealing can increase the depth to a hard steel that can withstand vacuum and pressure, so it is suitable for making cans and bottles. On this basis, a continuous degradation process with smaller grain size is proposed.
Rolling: After annealing, the mild steel is gently rolled into a sheet of the required thickness.
Double pressure: Sometimes tempering rolling is not used, but secondary rolling is used. This can produce thinner and stronger boards. This sheet can be as thin as 0.14-0.24mm, which is more attractive on packaging materials. This is because it can save transportation costs and reduce carbon emissions.
Tinplate box manufacturers share electroplating technology
In the application analysis of food packaging design, tin has been introduced to steel plates since the 1940 s. It used to be possible to do it by hot sleepers. The main use of tin is to produce tinplate, which accounts for 30% of the total production of tin. By 2018, 30% of tin production will come from recycling.
The electrolytic method has the advantages of obtaining a thin tin layer and controlling the thickness of the electroplated layer. This problem is important because the coating thickness of the two steel plates may be different, forming a "tinplate with different coatings". Today's tinplate has a stone layer thickness from 0.1 to 1.5 microns.
Galvanizing: 99.9 percent pure tin anodes penetrate into the steel plate with electrolyte, and then electrolytically plated with a layer of tin. Finally, the excess tin on the plate is removed and then recycled for use.
Flow melting: In some cases, the tin coating is heated and melted to form an iron-tin alloy layer, which improves the corrosion resistance of tin.
Passivation: The tin film can be oxidized to form a thin film. A layer of chromium is added to the passivation process, followed by a layer of food grade oil to stabilize the coating and prevent this layer from growing.
Tinplate box manufacturers share tinplate application range
The application of tinplate in food packaging design analyzes the thickness of 0.13mm to 0.50mm. The thickness of the stone layer is in microns (1 micron = 0.001mm), so that steel plates make up most of the thickness. There are thousands of combinations of steel and tin, and tinplate manufacturers believe that customers should tell producers how to use tinplate to ensure quality.
